Séverine VAËNA – Guest singer
Vocal
Inspired and enthralled by: the power of Aretha Franklin, the ebulience of Freddy Mercury, the emotion of Nina Simone and the energy of Carmen McRae, Séverine Vaena has always sung the blues; it is what thrills, and connects her to the world.
Séverine initially followed a classical musical path (Conservatory Choir), flute, classical song, but was then strongly influenced by the method of Richard Miller, whose courses she undertook at the University of Belmont in Nashville, USA.
Following her apprenticeship, Séverine worked for great artists such as Phil Collins and David Richard (producer and sound engineer for Queen, Iggy Pop, David Bowie, etc.).
Back in Europe, she created several bands such as : the Séverine Vaena Quintet with Stéfano Saccon and Maxence Sibille, and the group One A, with among others Benoit Corboz and Marc Erbetta.
In parallel, Séverine Vaëna sang with the Bluz Broz Buzz. This group comprised eleven musicians who performed their energizing show on the stages of French-speaking Switzerland for more than ten years; a brilliant tribute to the masters of rhythm 'n' blues and rock 'n' soul.
In 2015, she embarked upon a new adventure: Vaena's Project.
For more than ten years, Séverine Vaëna has been singing with the same evervescent joy, on stages throughout the region: AMR, UT Tempo, Chorus, Chat Noir, Cave Marignac, Café Margaux in Begnins…
But the meeting with the Big Band of Jazz of Divonne has allowed the realisation of a childhood dream. Séverine has always loved the mix of voicings, and feels that singing with a full big band, complete with brass section, is totally organic.
A free spirit, Séverine draws from all influences of jazz, making her own universe for the energy to flow ; a world without artifice, which get to the roots of the blues, a radiant, generous, powerful universe, in the image of her gutsy voice.
